jewry
This story is about people, who live the jewish way nowadays in St. Petersburg. It’s not so hard to be jew in Russia now, certainly, not so hard as half a century ago. But nevertheless it’s not an easy way. Many of this people grew up knowing nothing about the jewry, traditions, laws. Many of them have mixed families. However they come in synagogue, bring their children, celebrate jewish holidays. They send children to jewish schools. What does accessory to community, observance of traditions give them? Is it necessary for children? Does it help them or considerably complicate their life? What is this — runaway from reality or other reality? Is it very closed life or one more way to survive in today’s world? Jewish community is one of few comfortable, kids-friendly places in our country. And there is a high contrast between the life in community and ordinary life. The jewish life has a lot of rules not always compatible with everyday life. What life will choose those children when they grow up — preservation of the traditions or assimilation?

"ЛОШАДЬ - большое, теплое, четырехкопытное счастье"
Соня Шаталова, 8 лет
This story is an attempt to overcoming a fear. I always considered that there is nothing so terrible as a disabled child. And I still think so. But when I've come up closer, I have seen a lot of joy, achievements, smiles in this world of "peculiar" children. I have seen so many love, caress, tenderness - all things, that don't be found often in ordinary life. Hippotherapy is a science-based method of treatment. But besides that it teaches children to contact with their bodies and with all things around, it gives them an opportunity to feel themselves "on horseback", to break away from illness and find another way.

off-season
What happens with place, when people have gone? It's a long and calm life without a lot of motion, noise and color. It lasts more then half a year. It's time to stop. It's time to dream. It's time to be alone.- Off-season_Rabinkova

outskirts
This story is part of my investigation about city as a habitat of man. I try to figure out if city is a suitable place for life, really existing, with some laws and ways of survival, or just a delusion, which can disappear in any moment due to natural disaster or just electricity shutdown.Outskirts are the unstable border between city's reality and outward things, which doesn't need man's presence. And if in the centre of the city grass, sprouted from concrete, look like frightened stranger, then on the outskirts - especially the outskirts of little towns, where residential districts are not so spread and haughty - buildings look like something strange and accidental. It's a very surrealistic place, intricate combinations of modern and timeless, human and natural, urban and rural.Children and elders make this world habitable. Adults, who only sleep there, don't count. They don't see, don't feel this place, sometimes they fear it. They often try to escape it. Elders, who don't believe in city's delusions, tame the space with frontages, cats, goats... Children explore and overcome the space, without distinction of branchy trees and ruinous barns. It's a border - latent, but clearly feel, scary and attractive. -
behind the mirror
The theater is as in life, only behind the mirror. There are all seriously here — good luck, disappointment, rivalry, jealousy, love, weariness, but you need some time for adaptation to another reality. And when scenery became more real than windows of shops, when you catch yourself on desire to look in a yard, behind a facade — whether there is something real or only structure and plywood - all has turned out, you are in the World behind the looking-glass. And in this Through-the-Looking-Glass-reality all is possible. Behind any door there can be "very strange place", the Grecian horse is in hold, and hold is under a scene, pigeons are in the big cardboard box, people who come here not to work, but to live. This is very special place, jealously preserving itself from extraneous eyes. Place in which it is possible to live only if you are madly in love and no other way. And while there are people for whom theater is life, there is a chance for us to step over a threshold and change a reality at least for a couple of hours.- Behind the mirror_Rabinkova
